We place a high value on books and other literary works as the primary source of inspiration for our meetings. This holistic teaching method is how we present and cement these challenging topics. In turn, this lessens difficulty by constructing a foundation of fundamental principles and building on it, so students attain a comprehensive knowledge of complex STEAM concepts. This allows us to fully immerse ALL our members, and avoid simplifying content in a way that eliminates material, ensuring that we deeply study subjects and do not exclude or discourage others with varying levels of familiarity.

Mission
Our mission is to terminate ageism in learning environments and ageist stigma surrounding education. These are both elements that contribute to education inequality. Our founder, Anuva Gajjar, wants to bring attention to the misconception that only older individuals are impacted by ageism. In fact, younger people are often forgotten in this regard. Meals that Heal believes that learning is a lifelong journey so we emphasize the importance of continuous education for all. It is crucial that everyone is involved in learning and it should not stop at a certain age or event. In a constantly changing world where we all face shared challenges and issues, it is necessary to remain educated in order to have informed perspectives and contribute to finding innovative solutions to these problems.

Understanding Ageism
What is Ageism?
-
Ageism refers to the stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) towards others or oneself based on age.
Who does it affect?
-
Ageism affects everyone. Ageism intersects and exacerbates other forms of disadvantage including education inequality.
Where is ageism?
-
Ageism is everywhere: from our institutions, schools, workplaces, and relationships with ourselves. For example, ageism is in policies that support healthcare rationing by age, practices that limit younger people’s opportunities to contribute to decision-making in the workplace, patronizing behavior used in interactions with older and younger people, and in self-limiting behavior, which can stem from internalized stereotypes about what a person of a given age can be or do.
What are negative effects?
-
According to the World Health Organization, "Ageism can change how we view ourselves, can erode solidarity between generations, can devalue or limit our ability to benefit from what younger and older populations can contribute, and can impact our health, longevity and well-being while also having far-reaching economic consequences. For example, ageism is associated with earlier death (by 7.5 years), poorer physical and mental health, and slower recovery from disability in older age. Ageism also increases risky health behaviors, such as eating an unhealthy diet, drinking excessively or smoking, and reduces our quality of life. In the United States, one in every seven dollars spent on health care every year for the eight most expensive conditions was due to ageism (US$ 63 billion in total)."
How does Meals that Heal combat it?
-
We eliminate age as a barrier to knowledge in our programs by making powerful educational experiences for all. Advanced educational exploration is available through our development of a combined platform that enables people of all ages to transform their curiosity into action. We remove discrimination and inequality on the basis of age through educational activities that enhance empathy and dispel misconceptions about different age groups through our intergenerational interventions, which bring together people of different generations, and help reduce intergroup prejudice and stereotypes.
